The Board of Wimborne Town Football Club today parted company with the management team of James Stokoe & Mark Gamble.
We would like to place on record our thanks for their hard work and dedication over the last 2 years from taking over in difficult circumstances, wrestling with Covid and dealing with a challenging budget last season.
We entered the new season with high hopes but despite an overhaul of the squad we’ve made a disappointing start to the season and as a club we believe the time is right for a change of management if we’re to get our season back on track.
The club is welcoming applications for the role of manager and interested parties should contact Lee Merrifield on 07946 677990 or l.merrifield@mspcapital.co.uk
On a personal level this is a sad day for me and the club – since the takeover I’ve liaised closely with James and really enjoyed working with him and its right I re-emphasis his hard work (along with Mark) and dedication. James is a Wimborne Town legend and has put his heart and soul into this club as manager and of course prior to that for many years as a player.
Some will say we should’ve acted last season, others will say we should give them more time …as ever both views are valid and there are no easy decisions here. There’s no one more than me who wanted them to succeed as James has been a pleasure to deal with, but I think we all agree the start to the season has been disappointing and we’re here to make the tough calls. Thank you James (and your lovely family) and Mark and good luck to you both for the future.
Lee

Both great lads a real shame that it didn’t work out. Would like to wish them both the very best of luck for the future and to say please don’t be strangers. See you both very soon Steve Rimm

Don’t agree with the decision but I’m not in control, had they won yesterday they would have been 3rd/4th, same old story as I’ve mentioned but Gemma got her wish, I hope we now get someone in who’s not going to make major changes as we are so close with this group. Best of luck to James and mark

So it seems our expectations as a club are to be southern premier despite having only been there for a short period?

Some fans saw this coming [gemma] Others didnt [wimbornefan] This game is results driven - and results weren't good enough. This is a well supported club and expectations were high.
The big question now is who are we to get as the Manager. It's a must that it has to be an experienced person. James was a great person with a lovely family. But if I'm right this was his first entry into football management - and to come into it at Southern Premier level was asking a bit much - perhaps some blame attaches to the board for that. They will now be under pressure to get the right man this time.
Is Killick available ? Not the most likeable of people but you can't doubt his pedigree and a great player for us in his day. What about Alex Pike ? another Vase hero. Have the Board already tapped someone up. ? We await with baited breath

As for incoming managers Tommy killick, really why would he come to us from poole even if the club wanted him??

I wish James and Mark well. Two great guys and it's so sad it didn't work out for them. We need someone experienced now and with all due respect not the two gents mentioned above. Someone with no attachment to the vase team and will get the best from this talented squad. The board has invested heavily in this club, the support and infrastructure is there. Yes, southern league premier is where we should be aiming for. I can think of a manager doing very well in our league just down the road where attendances are a third of ours but I doubt he could be prised away.....

With all due respect have you seen the way they play football, it’s big idiots and in the air, that’s the way he’s recruited and that’s how he obviously plays as a manager, how is he going to do that with the players we have

I saw Joe Roach from Bournemouth FC at a few of the early games and during pre season. Would he be interested? What a coup that would be with his coaching pedigree and array of contacts in the game.

Well organised, disciplined and hard to beat. Probably what you need to get out of This league where big idiots are de rigeuer. It's all well and good playing pretty football but if you can't put the ball in the net......

A real shame… they were the right characters, in my opinion, for a Community Club like ours… Lee - it must have been a difficult decision on a personal level with such a committed guy to the Wimborne Club. But as investors you need a return on the pitch … which I do believe was coming our way. That said… we look forward to the next chapter in the Magpies history.
To James Laura and your family… “thank you” for your commitment as a player and Manager - really nice people, in supporting the Club…. I hope in time that you will visit the New Cuthbury where I am sure a very warm welcome will await you. You never shied away from talking to the supporters and all credit for that….And for Mark… your enthusiasm on the side line was so typical of your willingness for the team to succeed. James you have brought some really good players to Wimborne this season… and hopefully whoever the Board find to take up the baton after you, will benefit from your skills and contacts to assemble the side we have.
All the very best to you for the future within the game.

Whilst it is really sad that it did not work out for James and Mark, the board have made the right decision at the right time. As for who should take over, we need someone with a proven record at this level. As many people on here (myself included) have said, we have a good squad. We need someone who can get the best ot of them and instill the confidence neded to be a winning team. We have a lot going for us at Wimborne and I have no doubt that we will attract some quality applications. Onwards and upwards.
