There is a leg of the Tour of Britain Cycle Race due in the area on Sat 10th September. We have an FA Trophy game on that day v Bristol Manor Farm so it could impact on that fixture. The Dorset stage is from West Bay to Ferndown. It comes into Wimborne Minster from Blandford, past QE school and the Hospital. Goes into the Square and out towards Cranborne, via Verwood, 3X, West Moors, past the Kia garage in Ferndown and the finishing straight is Victoria Rd Ferndown.
Doubtless will cause some disruption in the whole area. The stage is 179 km long in total A map of the route can be found here [NOTE - POST AMENDED TO INCLUDE UP TO DATE DETAILS AT BOTTOM OF THREAD ]

This is going to cause some disruption. Have looked at the timetable and the race is due to go through Wimborne Minster between 14.15 and 15.05 approximately. Presume the roads concerned will be closed long before 1400 hrs. If you live to the east of the town centre you should be ok, but if you live to the west it may mean you are cut off for several hours. I'm a cyclist myself but even I think I might be displeased with the schedule

I regularly use the Wimborne Rd West/Leigh Road cycleway. It does need more people to use them but at least they have built them so there's no excuse not to.Now its a case of persuading more people to use them. It doesnt help that its not complete as the developers [David Wilson Homes/Barratts] have not provided the missing link as they are obliged to do either side of their access road in and out of Quarterjack Park
Bike commuting helps society in a number of ways. It's less wear and tear on the public roads, less pollution in the air, less traffic and congestion for other cars, allows more parking spots, and is less noisy through neighborhoods. Then on a personal level its really healthy, suitable for all fitness levels, is low impact excercise, saves you money, you discover the area where you live. The benefits outweigh the risks.Inclement weather can be countered by wearing the correct gear. With climate change we all need to think what we can do to help
So why not consider cycling to New Cuthbury. There are excellent covered facilities at the skateboard end.
Incidentally the odd cyclist may be using the road where there are cycleways to use. The Government advice is to use cycleways but it is not reccommended if you regularly travel at 18mph or above. Their advice is its ok to use the road if that is the case.

Whilst there may be some "disruption" between say, QE School and Walford Hill via The Square & West Boro' any western resident will be aware of going via the by-pass, turn left at Canford Bottom r/bout and into Parmiter Rd or in opposite Bytheway and park near the allotments. The first route map showed the course going down Stone Lane from QE and left through Walford. As a courtesy, the Secretary has, no doubt, the item in his diary to advise BMF to travel along A350 from Blandford and A31 Wimborne by-pass.

I think youâll find the secretary is a âherâ and she is sure to have it all in hand

To be fair there are two secretaries - Wayne Jones is the Club secretary and Paula Wheatley is the Fixtures Secretary. The route has only just been finalised so, without being too pedantic, I wouldnt go so far as to say 'she is sure to have it in hand' Perhaps the club have been alerted to it by this thread ?

Thanks to magpiesgraham for this info taken from his BMF match preview "If youâre travelling to the game from west of the town, or the town centre, be aware that The Tour of Britain cycling peloton and its entourage will be hurtling past QE School, down St.Margaretâs Hill past the hospital, and into The Square before heading out on the Cranborne Road just after 2 oâclock. No doubt thereâll be lots of road closures so your usual route may not be available. Highlights of each stage of the Tour are on ITV4 each evening." The stage is from West Bay to Ferndown so there will be road closures also in Verwood and the route through to West Moors then Ferndown past the Kia Garage and up to the finish in Victoria Road, Ferndown Town Centre The most up to date information was issued by Dorset Council on 2nd September and can be found here :- news.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/2022/09/02/road-closures-aj-bell-tour-of-britain-stage-7-saturday-10-september/

Just seen online that the event has now been cancelled as a mark of respect following the passing of Her Majesty The Queen.
The organisers of the AJ Bell Tour of Britain have confirmed that stages seven (Dorset) and eight (Isle of Wight) will not take place.
