Hi everyone,
I notice that we have a Wimborne Reserves team in the Dorset Premier League this season. I’m guessing this has replaced the development squad that we had in the Wyvern league?

Where have you seen this?
Is it a good thing that we’re in the dpl? will the development of players continue as I’m guessing it is more physical and experienced players in that league rather than the wyvern league?

The Dorset league announced all of their divisions for next season yesterday and I noticed that we appeared in the list. Yes possibly more physical although it’s a huge step in standard between DPL and the Southern League. I was more interested in whether it was more a change in approach having a ‘reserve’ team rather than the development squad. It’ll be interesting to get something more official from the club.

This is what I was trying to say, the dpl will be more physical than the development league, I’m guessing the new reserve team will now have to go and get some players in as they won’t be able to use all development/Acadamy boys in that league

From what I have heard the new DPL Reserve Team will be made up of the young WTFC academy players as all the previous players who played in the Wyvern/Hampshire Combination & Development Premier League in past seasons have been released and have moved onto other clubs. I wish the new squad all the best for the coming season in a league renowned for it's brutality and intimidation !!

This non existent pathway has always been a big problem in my eyes, it was never going to work as the set up at the club is not about players development it’s about making money for the Youth section only, once your cash flow stops your out regardless of your ability. I believe managers and players that were part of the Wimborne set up last season have taken complete age group teams to other local clubs for next season as there were no options being offered for any of them at Wimborne unless they signed up to the Wimborne Btec course !

Barry, I totally agree with your assessment that the "Pathway" system was never going to work at this level, in all honesty the "Academy" system at pro clubs doesn't really work as so few players actually end up playing for the first team at the club where they played academy football.
I am all for the club having a youth section but the pathway system is the stuff of dreams.
It would be interesting to hear from the club how the "Development Centre" / Players Pathway is performing against its objectives and whether the following which is displayed on the clubs website is still correct and in line with the clubs objectives.
Wimborne Town launched their first ever development Centre in January 2020. The Centre started with Under 13, Under 14 & Under 15 age groups. The new season ahead 2021-2022 will bring in new age groups which will now see the Development Centre run from Under 11s to Under 16s
Our current Under 18 Team play in the well established South West Counties Youth League regarded by many as one of the best leagues for establishing youth talent into the senior game.
Our Reserve/Development Team is run with the emphasis on further developing already talented players who will hopefully become Wimborne Town FC First Team players in the future.

I’m definitely in favour of having a youth section for all age groups as long as it’s all done under the Wimborne Town FC banner !
it will be interesting to see what the clubs 2022/2023 season plans are for the youth section, Development Squad, Btec Academy ?

i think its essential for a club like wimborne to have an extensive youth system all age groups boys and girls, tho i feel this is more to be actively doing good in the local community than actually trying to find the next messi,of course with so many parents, grandparents and friends dropping these youngsters at the stadium it raises the profile of the club and some of them might well be tempted to return on matchday or even hire the facilities
