From the Southern League website:
Walton Casuals in Appeal for Off-Field Help
Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South club Walton Casuals have revealed off-field problems which threaten its very future.
A statement from the club reads as follows:
“Casuals achieved its best position in the non-League Pyramid in 2021/22. However, the backdrop to this success has been one of incredible challenges on the pitch - matched only by challenges off the pitch.
It has therefore been very difficult to decide the future direction of the club - whether this is to be to continue under current management, offer the club for acquisition or to close the club down.
All clubs rely on the support of individuals, companies, volunteers and the local authority - and especially fans and sponsors.
The generosity and commitment of all those associated with the club has made the 2021/22 season’s achievements all the more special.
But recent, current and foreseeable stresses that will be placed on all those inputs (time and financial) has made it clear that despite careful stewardship by the current management the ability to continue operating the club into next season appears unsustainable.
Therefore, the club is exploring potential acquisition approaches before deciding the ultimate future.
We know this will come as a huge disappointment to our fans”.

They don't exactly spell out the reason for the off-field problems. But are we to assume its financial ?

I have been there a couple of times including the 2-2 evening draw last season when 2 nil down if I recall. We never lost to them at all last season! Big shared double grandstand with an athletics track on the other side. Not very well supported in terms of numbers and think the few Wimborne followers on a cold October night outnumbered the Casual fans so probably financial! Their budget (speaking to some of their fans) was significantly bigger than ours at the time. Their manager is ex Hammer Tony Gales son. Not surprising therefore they might be struggling

It's true they are not the best supported team, but it's a shame that due to financial reasons (if that's the case) they are going to shut. Never nice to see a local side go, the fans they do have are losing a local identity.

Would be a shame to see them go. On a personal note during the years when I ferried my daughter to rowing and didn't go to football games on Saturdays Walton was my favourite regatta. Friendly club and nice pubs on the Thames, so I've a soft spot for the area.

It must be dificult to generate income having a ground share arangement at the local sports hub. With increasing costs for energy and travel etc, I fear that more clubs may well be forced to close .

Walton on Thames is a very affluent area. Its a shame the football club can't find a saviour locally.
This is from Dorset Dave's programme article for our home game on 5th Feb last:-
Walton-on-Thames is a market town on the right bank of the Thames in the Elmbridge borough of Surrey, England. The town itself consists mostly of affluent suburban streets, with a historic town centre of Celtic origin. It is one of the largest towns in the Elmbridge borough, alongside Weybridge. It is around 15 miles from central London. The name "Walton" is Anglo Saxon in origin and is cognate with the common phonetic combination meaning "Briton settlement" (literally, "Welsh Town" – weal(as) tun). Before the Romans and the Saxons were present, a Celtic settlement was here. The most common Old English word for the Celtic inhabitants was the "Wealas", originally meaning "foreigners" or "strangers". Walton appears in the Domesday Book of 1086 as "Waletona" Kia Motors[UK] HQ is in Walton Green,Surrey. Hence my piece below on car puns. Hello Audi you do. Lexus begin. Are you Citroen comfortably. Now either I'm Daf or just too Cavalier to care but I reckon its no Minor feat to Captur as many car puns as I can. You'll be Cortina trap once you start reading it. [ Datsun another one ] This is a real Triumph for me and I'll keep going until you Rolls Honda floor pleading for Mercedes and then the neighbours will shout " Oi Vauxhall the noise about ? If you scream any Lada I'll set my dog Rover on you and give you a kick up the Astra. What an Estate to get into." They'll probably Escort you to the Looney Bin shouting Sierra a Doctor in the house and then throw away the Kia. I wish I could a Ford a car of my own but I'm very Porsche although I could get a Jeep one. But it would be more likely to break down and I wouldnt get very Ferrari. I only live in a Nissan hut as I'm not very Smart . I'm off to do some cleaning now with a Duster although I might Dodge doing that and go and eat some Opels. But it may happen some Daewoo. I hope and will pray to Chrysler that it Skoda happen Well I don't think I could Fiat any more puns in so I'll say that's all Volks. (what a load of Capri )

Has anyone seen any update on how Walton Casuals are getting on with their appeal for help?

Not bad at all Ben, if your own work well done. As stated this is actually by Dorset Dave. He writes a column in every home league match day programme entitled Dorset Dave's Chuckle Corner. This gives some details of the opponent's home town and then relevant jokes etc

From the Southern League website 9 June:
Last month, Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South club Walton Casuals revealed off-field problems which threatened its very future.
The club announced it was exploring potential acquisition approaches before deciding the ultimate future.
However, a statement issued from the club today has revealed the sad news that their attempts to identify new owners or investors has been unsuccessful.
The statement from the Board of Directors reads: “Following the announcement on May 10th that the club were having to explore the future of the club, the process to identify new owners and/or investors has sadly been unsuccessful.
“Therefore, the club has decided that it will now follow a process of managed closure.
“This decision has been very difficult, and we are sure will come as a huge shock and disappointment to the club’s staff, volunteers, fans and all the relationships and associations that the club has built-up over many years.
“During the process, the Board were determined to ensure that (at either the point of acquisition or in the event of closure) the club would be left in a position with no liabilities or indebtedness.
“This has been achieved and despite the anguish that closure will inevitably cause, the club leaves with honour and pride in what it has achieved and with the many wonderful memories.
“The Board will now progress the managed closure of Walton Casuals FC but would like to again thank everyone foe their extraordinary support over many years and their patience and understanding during this recent period”.

Just seen this on Twitter. Very sad news. Makes me thankful that our club seems to be in good hands. Hopefully something new will start in Walton.
