With just under three months to the end of the league season (April 23rd), Wimborne have seventeen games left. The final three are Supermarine (away), Poole (home) on Easter Monday, and lastly Chesham (away), which is quite a difficult run-in.
Realistically, can we avoid relegation?
Let's have a look at the remaining games. I've split the teams in our division into four groups based on current league position and points.
1. First - fifth: Farnborough, Met Police, Hayes, Taunton, Yate.
We have three games to play against teams in this group - Farnborough (a), Hayes (h), Yate (h).
Given that these are striving to win the league, or be in the play-offs, and are in good form, if we pick up any points from them it will be a bonus.
2. Sixth - eleventh: Gosport, Weston, Chesham, Poole, Walton Casuals, Truro.
We have six games against teams in this group - Weston (h & a), Chesham (a), Poole (h), Casuals (h), Truro (a). We bagged a 2-2 draw at Casuals, playing them at home could offer us the best chance of picking up points here. Any more would again be a bonus.
3. Twelfth - sixteenth: Hendon, Harrow, Beaconsfield, Supermarine, and, surprisingly. Salisbury.
We have four games to play against these - Harrow (h), Beaconsfield (a), Supermarine (a), Salisbury (h). Realistically, these teams have little to play for this season. We need to pick up some decent points in these four games.
4. Seventeenth - bottom: Hartley Wintney, Tiverton, Dorchester, Kings Langley, Merthyr.
We have four games to play against these teams - Hartley (h), Dorchester (h), Kings (a), Merthyr (a). Each of these games will be a six-pointer, we can't afford to lose against any of them. We've improved the spine of the team with Gerard, Bos and Barts since we played the four we have left, Dorch and Merthyr are bottom of the current form table, so there's cause for optimism in these games.
My conclusion is that "yes" we can avoid relegation. We have to pick up as many points as we can in the eight games against teams in groups three and four. Any points from the nine games against teams in groups one and two will be a bonus, but it's within the team's capabilities as we've already drawn at Met Police and Yate.
Our support is going to be vital for the team, it could make all the difference.
