First half was fairly even probably the best chances coming to Wimborne forcing a couple of good saves from their keeper. Both the new Weymouth lads played from the start. Rose up front on his own looked lively and had he connected could have scored a great volley to open his Magpies account. Gosport made a double substitution at half time which seemed to make a difference to them. They were the better side in the second half. We did however have some chances from Rose just wide and Jez Bedford who had another good game. However after a period of continuous pressure and corners Gosport scraped one across the line on 75 minutes. 3 minutes later cull came out wide to narrow an angle but the ball was played over him for a scramble in the 6 yard box. The linesman flagged that the ball had crossed the line Worryingly Rose came off injured replaced by Lewis Beale and later Jamie Henry got injured replaced by Jamison. Moral of the night take your chances when they come. There was promise again but same old problems surfaced with eventually the build up of pressure finally gives! Onwards to Saturday

As Graham couldn’t make the game, I have attempted to write a quick match report as Graham so kindly does usually for us after each game.
Wimborne played their first game since the recent news of the takeover and handed debuts to their two new loanees from Weymouth, Alexander McBurnie and Akheem Rose and there was also a start for the returning Louis Kellaway.
Although Gosport started the first half strongly, heading wide in the first minute, it was Wimborne who had the better chances throughout the half. Louis Kellaway was unlucky not to open the scoring with a long range effort well saved by the Gosport goalkeeper, before Jez Bedford pounced when the keeper spilled the ball but his shot was saved.
Gosport were restricted to long range efforts but their main threat came from set pieces where they twice scooped the ball wide after a scramble in the box.
Meanwhile, debutant Rose was causing lots of problems with his pace and he got through on the left hand side but his shot was deflected over, and also failed to connect with an acrobatic effort from a good Bedford ball that found him in the box. As the half-time whistle blew, the visitors were unlucky not to be in the lead.
The home side made 2 changes at the break in an attempt to change the momentum but the second half continued in the same vain as the first, with Wimborne on the front foot. Rose had a great chance to open the scoring after he had quickly shut down the defence and created his own chance but his shot went agonisingly wide, and when Lewis Beale replaced Rose after a knock, he ran through the home defence before slipping the ball to Bedford but a certain goal saw the ball hit the side netting.
McBurnie was the next to have an effort from outside the box but his effort curled high and wide. Despite causing little threat in open play, Gosport were a threat throughout the game from set pieces with a real physical presence from some strong players, and they built up a head of steam with a succession of corners that were bravely blocked by the Wimborne defence and 2 efforts hooked off the line.
Sadly though, the pressure was to prove too much when Gosport headed a corner home, Alex Cull got fingers to the effort but couldn’t quite keep it out and the home side were in the lead. Shortly after the opening goal, the home side went two in front, once again Wimborne scrambled to keep the ball off the line but it was adjudged to have gone in before being hooked clear.
Wimborne didn’t stop battling until the end but couldn’t get the goal or points that this performance deserved. The new signings have given everyone a boost and the players gave their all and had the chances to win this game. With more players to return shortly from suspension and injury and with a performance like tonight, it really does feel like a much needed 3 points is just around the corner.

Where was the young lad who came on and scored Saturday?
Was he not worth at least a try on the bench?
We need goals to win games and looking at the bench they were midfield players apart from Lewis Beale who has been injured?

Thank you Mr.Hammer and Gemma for your reports - good work.
I've passed Gemma's excellent report to James who compiles the programmes. He has already completed a first proof but will see if he can re-arrange articles to make space.
It was Joe Freak who scored the goal on Saturday. It was his second appearance of the season, I think the other was against Paulton in the League Cup. Joe won the "golden boot" in the league the Reserves played in last season.

If he won the Golden boot why hasn't he been given a try, looks like he knows how to score goals.
I know it's a massive step up but surely worth some game time to see if he can produce for 1st team?

Because he’s not ready, he was sent to shaftsbury when danny was manager there and verwood last season and he didn’t do much at either for the short time he was there

Hi there, Did you manage to go last night? I’m only asking as the new signing from Weymouth was a real handful and will create and score goals. I also think that we do have goals in this team, Beale is probably one of the best strikers in the division and Jez Bedford and Curtis Young get a few goals every season. I think that the reason we haven’t been scoring is not because we don’t have any goal scorers but because we haven’t been creating any chances, we’ve not been playing the ball on the deck which means poor Lewis Beale has had to chase a lot of high balls from high clearances from defence when we’ve been under so much pressure. Again, I think this will change. McBurnie played really well in midfield last night and keeps the ball ticking over with nice one and two touch passes, and the team played so much better on the front foot pressing which is why so many chances were created, here’s hoping this continues over the next few games.

Hi Gemma No I didn't go last night. I am glad the new players made a difference and i hope it continues. I agree it's pointless in hitting it high foe Beale to go, he needs it on the floor to use his pace. Most teams are better on the front foot which alot comes down to fitness to maintain the press.
I was just saying if we have a young lad as golden boot winner he knows where the back of the net is...might be worth a punt for a few games, he might be a diamond in the rough
If he isn't given a chance we will never know!!!

Completely agree - it's been depressing to watch Lewis Beale fruitlessly chasing aimless hoofs forward. Hopefully some better balls to him and the wide players will pay off quite quickly in terms of creating decent chances.

Do we think the improvement in the football played last night was due to acing better players in the team, recent signings jez, xander and akheem all have good quality, do you think the longer ball was because of the lack of quality the budget allowed for?
