Yet again Wimborne's poor disciplinary record came to the fore as Harry Morgan was sent off for 2 Yellows. It was 0-0 at the time but Larkhall capitilised with 2 goals in the remaining half hour. Joe Freak scored a consolation in added on time . Alex Cull was the busiest keeper throughout.
Magpies starting line up Cull, Strugnell, Arnold, McWilliams,Mason, Morgan, Gamble, Carswell Young, Jamison, Maybury Subs Smith, J. Freak, L Freak, Henry, Stokoe

Embarrassing and very costly... Game wouldn't have looked out of place on a parks pitch...in fact with the amount of sand on the pitch it was more like a parks pitch than a newly laid playing surface.. I guess todays performance sums up where we are and what we can afford which in my opinion is mid table in the Wessex League

I guess todays performance sums up where we are and what we can afford which in my opinion is mid table in the Wessex League Did you see the line up, or the bench, have you listened to the interview regarding why that team was picked 8/10 players with the 2 new arrivals not being available. Also a soft red card thrown into the mix What more do you want expect when that’s all that’s available

It's ebarrinassing that a club of Wimborne Towns status are only managing to put out a side that would struggle in the Wessex Leauge... the BoD should hang its head in shame!! full credit to JS and Gambo for sticking with it when it would be very easy to walk away.

It’s a bit harsh to say poor discipline came to the fore. Both yellows were not warranted in my opinion. The first one didn’t look like any contact and the second was a fair but tough challenge without any intent and both going for the ball. Yet again it appears that refs listen to those that shout loudest. Harry was gutted at the end of the game from what I could see. Joe Freak picked up a yellow at the end too with their keeper conning the red by sticking his leg out to catch Joe’s leg. All these suspensions are not helping the cause. The team were severely depleted again and now Harry faces a ban. A bit of luck on the injury front and some proper reffing might help. If Kings Langley can beat Hayes & Yeading anything can happen! Would be nice if the club explains why the pitch looked like a beach in November!

Grahams Match Report
Wimborne Town 1 Larkhall Athletic 2 - 27 Nov 2021
The Buildbase FA Trophy Round 2 - winners £3750, losers £1000
Another game at New Cuthbury, another long list of players unavailable, another red card, and another defeat - this time in a cup game against a team from the league below. After a first-half that won't linger long in the memory, the sending off of Harry Morgan swung the momentum in favour of the visitors who took full advantage with two goals in five minutes. A consolation goal in added-on time by substitute Joe Freak was too little too late.
Manager James Stokoe was without Beale, Bedford, Bragg, Cann, Chugg, Hall, Henry, Morrison and Scorey, plus 3 recent signings. Assistant Manager Mark Gamble, and youngsters Jake Carswell, Regan Mason & Louis McWilliams all started.
On a bitterly cold afternoon, it was the visitors, with the strong wind behind them. who made the better start. Demkiv was first to test Alex Cull in the home goal; then Corrick, coming in from the left, fired into the side netting; before Baker fired a 35-yard wind-assisted free-kick at the young keeper. Wimborne's first real chance came shortly after on 18 minutes. Dan Strugnell found Gamble in the Larkhall half. The centre-forward set Morgan up for a volley which was saved by the post by Semmens. Curtis Young drove the corner across the goal only for Strugnell to head wide. Three times Cull raced out of his goal, three times Strugnell headed behind, and twice Carswell blocked, all to avert Larkhall danger. And so the Magpies achieved their first target, reaching the interval on level terms.
Now, with the wind behind them, they could take the game to the visitors. But that's not how it turned out. Larkhall created two good chances in the first two minutes after the break. Baker lost his marker at the far post from a free-kick on the left, but his shot was brilliantly saved by Cull, and when the ball was played back in to the central defender's head, same players, same result. Lambert, the Larks right-winger (more of him later), was beginning to have an impact, and on 54 minutes he cut in from the right to force Cull into another good save.
On 58 minutes referee Read made a crucial decision. Morgan jumped for a ball in mid-field with an arm raised. His opponent went down clutching his face, men in blue surrounded the official, and he showed the man in black & white his second yellow card of the afternoon. In your reporter's opinion it was no worse than numerous other heading challenges which went unpunished.
Larkhall sensed their opportunity. After Corrick's pull-back from the left by-line had been spurned, the visitors took the lead on 69 minutes. Lambert's right-wing cross was headed down and in at the far post by Britton. They doubled their lead five minutes later. Corrick drove the ball to Lambert wide on the right. He turned Billy Maybury inside and outside before firing past Cull into the far corner from just inside the box - it was an excellent finish.
Wimborne had a chance to get back into the game on 82 minutes. Maybury's free-kick, just outside the box and slightly left of centre, went over the defensive wall but also inches over the cross-bar. Young's cross from the right found no taker, before the hosts did pull a goal back in time added-on. Two Larkhall clearances were charge down in the inside-right channel. The ball ran kindly to substitute Joe Freak who finished with aplomb from 12 yards.
And so our run in the FA Trophy came to a disappointing end at New Cuthbury. You can't fault the team Stokoe put out for effort, but they were beaten by a stronger team from the league below. We wish the Larks all the best in the next round.
For the Magpies it's back to league action with two games next week. At least manager Stokoe will have more players to choose from.
Wimborne: Cull, Strugnell, Arnold, Jamison, Maybury, McWilliams, Carswell, Mason, Young, Morgan, Gamble (J.Freak 77) Unused subs: L.Freak, Henry, Smith, Stokoe

Payment from the Echo? Ha, ha I'm just pleased that they use part or all of the reports as it gives the Club publicity. Photographer Steve Harris sends them some of his pics, so the paper has reasonable material to use. I also send a short report on home Saturday games to the Non-League Paper, either 220 or 120 words. There is a (very) small payment for that which I'll pass on to either the Club or the Supporters Club in some form.
