Why is there so much sand on the pitch today, there should be no need for this on a pitch less than one season old...

... on a day when the ball needs to be on the ground we play on a pitch more suited to building sandcastles..

At the Fans Forum we never got a proper answer to what the club were going to do with the drainage of the pitch. Tony Grant muttered something about Wyatts were going to help, but he wasnt very convincing. The pitch is out of warranty we were told but this seems very feeble and I feel the legal route may be the only alternative as the pitch is fast becoming unfit for purpose. If we manage to get through the winter a lot of work is going to be required in the summer. The events manager and the commercial manager had better get busy to finanace it.
The only thing that might save us is the current turn of events with the new Covid variant getting worse and a new lockdown looming.

The club needs to get rid of the old board members, the ones who ran it into the ground before, and are now doing a good job repeating themselves. new blood at the top, that is honest and transparent and want the club to move up not down

The pitch was unbelievably bad yesterday but there was no sand like that on Tuesday night so who in their right mind decided to put that much sand on it and what for?

I don't suppose anyone in a senior position is going to give an answer as to why tons of sand were spread onto a newly laid pitch prior to Saturdays game... I was stood with some Larkhall fans and they could not believe the poor condition of the pitch...

I was stood with some Larkhall fans and they could not believe the poor condition of the pitch... The really worrying aspect is, there hasn't been a prolonged spell of heavy rain recently. What's it going to be like after we've had a couple of weeks of extremely heavy downpours?

I'm no expert but would the sand be a precaution to absorb rain?? I believe sand slitting is one option although it sounds like the pitch was laid poorly.

I spoke with a contractor who worked on the site during construction and he was saying that when they were digging out the foundations it was very common to hit the water table and they would often have to pump water out before more work could be done.. if the pitch has been poorly laid and the high water table not taken in to consideration it could explain many of the problems we are now facing.
Throwing sand onto a pitch may help in the short term but surely it causes more problems at a later date...
Would be interesting to know who advised this course of action and what it cost.
I expect to see lots of games being postponed if we get a wet spell of weather, this is something that should not happen with a newly laid pitch and someone needs to be held accountable.

I think the people who built the grass pitch must share some of the blame. I am going to write to them enquiries@slattersportsconstruction.com to ask them what is going on as it can't be doing their reputation a lot of good. The more of us who write may prompt some action from them even if the pitch is out of warranty after such a short time. I dread the winter weather approaching

I understand that there are also issues with the 3G pitches not draining properly causing water to sit on the surface... I hope the club are taking legal advice on this issue.

You would think legally there would be an obligation to make good.lets hope it doesn't take as long as castlepoint.

Why is there so much sand on the pitch today, there should be no need for this on a pitch less than one season old... There was an exceptionally higher tide then normal, possibly caused by the recent high winds .

There was an exceptionally higher tide then normal, possibly caused by the recent high winds . So sounds like it might be the same problem that affects Poole during a wet spell. If it is to do with the water table then come the first wet spell look forward to a run of postponed matches to add to the current problems

Not sure why we're talking about the tide. New Cuthbury is 19 metres above sea level. What's important is how much above River [Stour] level the site is, which is only a few hundred metres away, and which affects the water table. I did a thread a little way back to discuss this useing this topographical map en-gb.topographic-map.com/maps/pnjr/Wimborne-Minster/If you click on an area on the map it tells you how many metres that area is above sea level. New Cuthbury appears to be 1-3 metres above river level. Can others make it more definite ?
