Match Report by Kyran Rickman -
Plymouth Parkway 2 Wimborne Town 1 Southern League Tues 29 Oct 2024
After Fletcher had given the Magpies a deserved lead, it was the hosts who came away with all three points, making full use of their second half extra man advantage.
Tim Sills made one change to his side as Cam Munn started in place of Matty Neale, as Wimborne headed to Devon for their first game in ten days.
The game started brightly with both sides eager to get on the front foot; Plymouth having the first effort of note with a shot from the edge of the box that didn’t really trouble Alex Rutter, with the new signing in brilliant form all night long.
On 15 minutes came the decisive moment of the first half as Josh Carmichael’s pinpoint corner was powered into the net from six yards out by Will Fletcher to give the visitors the lead.
The hosts tried to find a response through a succession of balls over the top which were largely dealt with by the commanding duo of Sam Roberts and Harvey Wright.
However, it was Wimborne who came closest to adding to the first half scoreline after a neat one-two between Munn and Beale around the box, only to be denied by a sprawling save by Lee in the Parkway goal.
Towards the end of the half Munn was booked for a late tackle on the halfway line, stopping a Parkway counter attack, as Wimborne saw out the first period with the lead.
Just seven minutes into the second half Munn went charging towards the penalty area when he appeared to be clipped just outside the box. The referee, however, saw the incident differently and gave the forward a second yellow believing it was an act of simulation.
The hosts wasted no time in making their man-advantage count, spreading play high and wide on a big pitch before working the ball back in for Beardmore to tap home a leveller, under two minutes after the red card.
Just four minutes later Rutter made the first of three spectacular saves, launching himself down low to his right to deny a powerful header from Garside.
There was nothing Rutter could do about the second goal on the 70th minute, as the aforementioned Garside got on the end of a ball in the box to smash home from close range.
Ten minutes later Rutter flew to his left to tip over for a corner, before denying Beardmore spectacularly from close range to keep the Magpies in it as they went in search of an equaliser.
Up the other end Burrows had two half chances towards the death but couldn’t direct either on target as the Magpies succumbed to defeat on the road.
Rutter; Biss (Scorey 45’), Roberts, Wright, Jackson; Carmichael, Morgan, Munn; Bedford (Burrows 70’), Fletcher (Baker 70’), Beale (Neale 56’)
Attendance: 347
