Now that the football season has concluded, and the objective of promotion has been achieved it’s time for the crazy season to begin.
As we make the step up to a higher standard of football and if we wish to be competitive at this next level it is inevitable that the management team will need / want to strengthen the squad, this will ultimately result in some of the players that achieved promotion leaving the club over the summer period, unfortunately there is no room for sentiment if the club wishes to achieve its ambitions.
Please use this thread over the summer to discuss the following….
• Who would you like the club to sign over the summer?
• Which areas of the team do you think need strengthening?
• Which players do you think will leave during the summer?
• Confirmed signings.
• Confirmed departures.
• Rumours.

I will start the ball rolling....
• Who would you like the club to sign over the summer?
- Matty Burrows (Totton) - Bert White (Sholing) - Toby Homes (Poole Town)
• Which areas of the team do you think need strengthening?
- All areas but particularly GK and a 20 goal a season striker
• Which players do you think will leave during the summer?
- Difficult to say but there will be some players looking for more game time, and players converted by other clubs • Confirmed signings.
- None as yet.
• Confirmed departures.
- None as yet
• Rumours.
- Hearing a few players from the current squad may have verbally agreed to sign for next season.

We all know how hard it is in the southern prem from recent experience!!I would be happy with mid table and establishing ourselves as a permanent higher league club.i thought toby had already signed which would be great, need 4 or 5 more I've no idea who but don't want to see recruitment being sourced to much from leagues below us,look upwards, wouldn't mind 1or2 exfootball league players, there you go job done haha.have a good summer everybody and we'll done and thank-you to everyone at the club

The three yogi mentions would be on my wishlist. Burrows looked like a player to me. Toby is a wimborne legend. I do think the bond and mental strength of the current squad shouldn't be underestimated but understand we need to strengthen .

Great thread will be interesting to see peoples thoughts.
Naturally there will be comings and going’s that’s football but I think it’s more about getting the right characters in that fit in with what Tim’s built, there’s obviously a great team spirit and bond in the group and hopefully that doesn’t get broken apart too much.
For what it’s worth I hope Ross in goal stays for another year I thought his experience was invaluable and had an underrated season. Matty Burrows looked impressive for the few games he was with us and Toby Holmes would obviously be a great addition up front.
Although it’s a level up in quality the southern prem I actually think it could suit us better with better pitches and teams actually trying to play football instead of sitting back …. With a few good additions here and there I don’t think there’s anything to fear.

Of the names mentioned so far:
Bert White was only at Sholiing for a short while, so would probably be available but he wanted game time, so suspect that is going to be a non-starter, if Flitney re-signs
Burrows is a great shout but understand he is on a contract so maybe on a loan again if he continues to sit on the bench, but if AFC Totton don't get promoted, they are probably unlikely to want to strengthen a competitor.
Holmes definitely but guessing he would be very expensive so maybe Fletcher from Poole Town / Dorchester
In my view we (and everyone) need a 20 goal a season striker and the best we played against in our league this season are Duru, who is definitely staying at Cribbs, Macootie of Yate Town and Simpson at Frome Town. That said, maybe the management are looking at players above this level, so it's probably a wait and see, especially until the play offs are over!?
We probably need another centre back perhaps Scarff of Tavistock who may be available now, obviously if he is willing to travel?
It will all come down to size of squad and budget, as it's very difficult to give everyone the game time they want and keep them happy and throwing big money at some players isn't always going to work.

Anyone think that any of the players released from Poole Town will strengthen our squad?
Max Evans Cameron Murray Alfie Santos Wes Fogden Harry Hutchison
Also interesting to see that Toby Holmes has been offered a new contract but has yet to agree terms, likely he will be seeing what other teams offer him before committing to a club for next season.

Suspect some of them will end up at Dorchester, but my thoughts for what they are worth: Evans - yes IF Flitney doesn't sign but if he does would Evans be happy to play back-up, my guess is no? Murray - surely Dorchester bound but not sure where he would fit into our squad Santos - yes, but who would leave to make space for another winger? Fogden - imho is too old now to fit into our squad or budget Hutchinson - yes, really good young player but would see him more of a squad player as he's not going to displace Jacko Holmes - proven goalscorer but would he fit into our squad and budget? There are going to be lots of players hoping to join us and no doubt the management will have their list, but first they need to assess who is staying and who isn't and go from there? As I have said, an interesting and exciting few weeks ahead!?

Shame to see Griff retire, but family time comes first. Don't expect him to be the only one to leave, and would expect between 4-6 new players so who do we think / hope the club are in for realistically?

No doubt there will be some curveballs Toby and Harvey Wright yes but both would be quite expensive, Gunson maybe but not sure he would be a starter, Burrows yes, but on contract at AFC Totton, Tshaka perhaps as a squad player but not a starter. The issue is players will want to be playing, there are very few who are happy sitting on the bench, so we need to see who is staying first and build the squad from there with some more experience (Toby and Wright) and players perhaps like Hutchinson, Scrimshaw and maybe Robinson (ex Sholing / Salisbury)?
