Match Preview - Thame Utd vs Wimborne Town Sat 30th Oct 2021
The Buildbase FA Trophy 3rd Round Qualifying - winners £2450, losers £625
Thame play in the Southern League Division One Central. They are currently 12th with 12 points from 11 games having a W3 D3 L5 record, scoring 16 and conceding 20 goals.
At home in the league they have a W1 D2 L3 record before crowds ranging from 63 to 263.
Last Saturday the Red Kites drew 1-1 at home with Didcot Town.
Five Thame players have scored more than once in their league games, with Ryan Blake and Greg Hackett in good form in recent games.
In the FA Cup this season Thame beat Thatcham 2-0 before losing 4-2 to Margate in a replay.
In the FA Trophy Thame have already won two ties at home, beating Winchester 3-2 before knocking Lymington Town out 3-0 in the last round. So far this run has added £3750 to Thame's coffers.
Following their 1-1 draw with Merthyr Town at New Cuthbury on Tuesday, Wimborne have moved off bottom spot on goal difference, and now have 6 points from 12 games. Five of those points have come away from home - victory at Salisbury, and draws at Yate and Walton Casuals.
Manager James Stokoe made four changes to his starting line-up on Tuesday. Callum Chugg's red card and Dan Strugnell's injury make further changes on Saturday likely.
In their previous cup games, Wimborne won 3-0 at Blackfield & Langley and 4-3 at Basingstoke before losing 3-1at National South Hampton & Richmond in the FA Cup.
This is the third time that we've been drawn away to The Red Kites in the FA Trophy.
In 2017-18, the season we gained promotion to the Southern League Premier Division, we were well-beaten. Thame raced into a four-goal lead within 20 minutes, and it was five by half-time.
Then last season we were drawn there again but had to pull out of the tie following an outbreak of covid.
The next round of the Trophy is the First Round Proper. Wimborne have only reached that stage of the competition once before - in the 2014-15 season under manager Steve Cuss when we lost 3-0 to Oxford City in front of a crowd of 235 at Cuthbury in mid-December. The Magpies had won four games to get there: Godalming 3-2 at Cuthbury; Dorchester 3-1 away; Northwood 2-1 at home; and finally Hornchurch 4-2 at home. A certain Mark Gamble scored in each of those games - he'd also notched a hat-trick in the FA Cup against St.Austell that season.
As far as I know, if the scores on Saturday are level after 90 minutes then there will be a replay at New Cuthbury.
Thame is just over 10 miles east of Oxford.
The post-code for Thame's Meadow View Park ground is: OX9 3RN. It's approx 105 miles via A34.
Weather forecast for 3pm: light cloud, 13oC, 10% chance of rain.
