Was the pitch really that bad?
Were WSM right to feel aggrieved?
Is this going to be the norm for this pitch, was it laid on the cheap by the contractor? What drainage was installed?

Weston were leading 3-0 at the time. We were shocking. Certainly the pitch was unplayable especially at the River end as Billy Terrell couldnt even bounce the ball.
Its not as if we have a wet lead up in the last few weeks. Certainly the rain was relentless but it should have been soaked up. Yes questions about the drainage surely. The contractors are going to have to look at this. We could have many problems coming up - its not as if its January or February.

After 5 minutes it was only a matter of time before it was completed alled off. There was flooding in the goalmouth before kick off.

This is an embarrasment. Firstly a pitch of this alleged quality should be soaking up the rain. We are only a quarter way through the season so what is there to come. Secondly we were 3-0 down and didnt even look like scoring. And where were Cann and Beale tonight.
I feel a statement from the club - after consultation with the contractors [Slatters?] - should be forthcoming [No hope of that I suppose]

Not sure quite what happened to the afcb pitch maintenance that was supposed to happen.

This is certainly an embarrasment as has already been stated. I was unable to attend the match but were we really that bad to be 3-0 down after only 30 minutes or so or was it down to the condition of the pitch?. Presumably we will be liable to meet WSM's expenses. Although rain on the night was very heavy we are yet to experience a prolonged wet period and if we do and more games are abandoned or postponed what is the leagues take on the situation. Can they fine/supend/dock points or even remove us from the league altogether if we are unable to fulfill our full programme because of a repeat of last nights fiasco. I seem to remember a couple of seasons ago Bideford? or Barnstable? had many games called off through flooding but can't recall the outcome. If it turns out to be drainage that is required and the pitch needs to be dug up the could leave us in a dire situation.

For those that didnt go to the game [attendance was 286] there is a montage from tbtv sport of the conditions on their twitter account twitter.com/TBTVSportThe worry seems to be that the pitch flooded unexpectedly as although very wet on the night, you would expect the drainage on a new pitch to take care of it- especially as the weather has been dry in the last few weeks. The pitch hasnt had a chance to be compacted with a long period of use, which is the normal problem with flooding. In my back garden, after long periods of wet weather, there are areas where it gets waterlogged. But I've had nothing like that so far this autumn/winter - so why should this be a problem with a newly laid pitch. As has been stated we do need an enquiry with this in consultation with the contractors to explain why this has happened especially if any remedial work is needed with only a quarter of the season played, & in the driest quarter too. Is the proximity of the River a factor ? I'm not aware of any historical flooding in the area. For those inclined to read about pitch drainage here is a link to some info:- www.turfdry.com/about/useful-resources/understanding-sports-pitch-drainage

I would re-iterate all that has been said before. The conditions were atrocious and it was a shock that a newly laid pitch became so waterlogged so quickly. The fans need answers and be included in the result of any findings. Lets hope the BoD take it seriously.
I wouldnt read too much into the scoreline considering the conditions. I didnt hear any announcement about refunds or keeping the ticket for the replayed game. I should imagine the club made good money out of refreshments and the bar
I look forward to a statement from the club in due course {NOT}

I wonder if there will be an announcement about reschedule and if those that paid will have to pay again.
