It's often said that you can judge a teams destiny for the end of the season after 10 games in a league. Of course there are exceptions and a few teams can go on a really good run after a poor start, and vica-versa. The Magpies have now played 10 games and have 5 points. This would suggest, in theory, that we will finish up with around 20 - 23 ponts at the end of the season's 42 games. So how many points do you need to avoid relegation. Well here is how the relegated teams fared in the last 3 full seasons that were completed in the Southern League Premier 2018-19 Basingstoke P42 49 pts Frome P42 47 pts Staines P42 12 pts 2017-18 St Ives Tn P46 33 pts Gosport P46 19 pts Dunstable P46 17 pts 2016-17 Cirencester P46 42 pts Hayes & Yeading P46 41pts Cinderford P46 27 pts NB The Southern League was revamped during some of these seasons Of course I dont have a record of the league position where the above teams were after 10 games. Can anybody work that out at all ? That would be the crucial question to prove out the theory. It would appear that you at least need a point per game average to avoid relegation

Looking at the 9 teams mentioned it's interesting to see where they are now. So from Level 3 where they all were - and at our level now. then -
3 are back up to Level 3 - St Ives [ cambridgeshire], Gosport, Hayes & Yeading
5 are at Level 4 - Frome, Basingstoke, Staines, Cirencester, Cinderford
1 is at Level 5 - Dunstable
