I understand the cycle park, which was situated at the by-pass end of the Stadium by the 2nd entry gate, has been ripped up and a large container put in its place. All the metal hoops have gone [ except 1 ] , and the canopy roof covering them has been taken down.
I've used the park to securely lock my bike when the traffic got bad last season, as I dont live far away . I trust the club are going to provide cycle parking for fans before the pre-season starts.
Anybody know what's going on ?

I've heard some rumours. If theyre true then the club are still suffering from when the old BoD were in charge. I can't imagine the current owners would have allowed it to happen and am surprised the new BoD have made the decision they have as a result. Can't comment at the moment as a long term supporter has been shafted if its true.

Rest assured the new owners will have a fkn theme park on the site within 5 years, anything for a 'fast food' buck - delusions of grandeur, especially the ex taxi driver !

The cycle park was well used by those attending games including myself. Its extrordinary that the club has demolished it. What are they thinking about especially with the attendance figures now being so high and the car park only holding around 200 and on street parking becoming clogged too. So coming to games by bike is environmentally sound. My bike is worth into 4 figures so with my insurance I have to secure it to metal and being under cover was useful too. And with all these cycleways being built in the area it makes sense to use them. I just hope its a temporary measure and they will have cycle parking ready for the pre-season. Even the number of Disabled parking spaces is too few and doesnt comply with the numbers there should be for a car park of 200 spaces.

Just found out a bit more about whats been going on.
The new stadium plans were the responsibility of the old BoD in agreeing with the builders Wyatts what was required. Although a kit room was included it has turned out not to be big enough. So to rectify this error the new BoD have decided the way to do this has been to use a container. For some reason it was felt the only place to put the container is at the end of the main building next to the changing rooms. This meant the well used bike park had to go. The club doesnt know where to move the bike park to.
This leaves the question of why the container had to go tight to the wall of the main building. Are they proposing an access through to the container from a new external door on the side wall of the existing biulding? At present the container is accessed via the changing room external door on the entrance which faces the car park. Why couldnt they have placed the container away from the main building and preserved the bike park? The club needs to be transparent about this.
When the building was taken place the plans showed the metal hoops [ known as Sheffield Hoops] in place along side the end of the main building . A supporter of long standing and a keen cyclist, offered to fund a purpose built covered cycle shelter [like the one at the front of Wimborne Hospital which was used by fans cycling to the original Cuthbury ]However this was turned down on the grounds of a perceived future vandalism problem. So instead he offered to fund a Canopy Roof over the hoops as per the plan. He gave the club a four figure sum for this which was accepted. I understand the supporter was not consulted, or even knew, that the canopy roof and the hoops were dismantled recently to accomodate the container. This was quite a shock to him. He doesnt even know where the canopy roof is I believe. The supporter in question is now in his eighties, in poor health and has recently been diagnosed with Cancer.
Very badly handled by the club I'm sure many of you will agree

I have contacted the club and have been told the supporter who paid for the canopy was contacted at the end of the season to let them know this was happening and that the canopy would be put back up. No time-frame was given but hopefully this can be sorted out fairly quickly.

I have now heard from the supporter who funded the canopy and seen the email exchange between them and the club. Contrary to what I was told, there is no trace of any contact prior to the work being undertaken. Apologies, it appears the person who "made contact" didn't do so until after they were prompted.

Happened to pop into the club today and you will be pleased to know that the bike canopy kindly provided by one of our supporters has been reinstated in its new position to the left of the players entrance. It is due a clean and the plastic roof requires placement and then it will be complete. I understand that new bike racks are being sought and will be installed.

When you say placement do you mean replacement or have they not fitted the plastic at all. It was all in good condition before it was taken down. Has it been damaged in storage?

No same plastic roof as everything was saved. It’s not a simple job to put it back so needs a few people to help!!
